Hi! I’m Kendra Vaughan, the lettering artist behind Loft Full of Letters, and I’m so glad you found me.
In business, they always tell you to have an elevator story—you know, that really quick conversation explaining what you do for a living that you can share quickly while riding from the first to the tenth floor of an elevator. I always found that kind of humorous, though, since people rarely ever talk in an elevator. Instead, they squeeze in as tightly as they can, and just stare straight ahead watching the floor numbers above the elevator door light up, one after the other. They act like there isn’t anyone standing beside, in front of, or in back of them. I’m no exception to that rule, so I laugh at myself, too!
And just what does this have to do with my art? Nothing. Except that my elevator story is really short—maybe quick enough for one floor’s travel.
So, pretend we’re on an elevator. And now pretend we’re only traveling one floor together. We politely say hi to each other, and for some reason you’re compelled to ask me what I do for a living. Maybe it’s because you caught sight of all the tattoos on my arms and wondered, who’d hire someone so inked up? So I answer you, “I’m a lettering artist. You know, calligraphy. I hand letter quotes, phrases, and names. Then I deliver them digitally to use however you want on things like framed wall art, greeting cards, place cards, or even invitations. The possibilities are endless, really.”
Okay, let’s be honest, that may take two floors, and then you’d quickly jump out of the elevator with the obligatory, “Nice to meet you.” And I’d wonder if I scared you away, or if you’ll remember Loft Full of Letters when you want something special hand lettered.
I hope to hear from you soon.
